Rousseau's work was typical of the time as it was essentially a man's world. The authors present a wide variety of perspectives on a group of texts which emerged at a time when questions that still occupy us today were articulated for the first time. Wollstonecraft is known as a pioneer for both feminist thought and an advocate for equality. Consequently her writings are a critique on most writings of the 'Enlightenment age', however, this article will take a look at Wollstonecraft's critique on Jean-Jacques Rousseau's theories and in particular ideas on education and female's devote society. The mother of Mary Shelley (who wrote Frankenstein), Mary Wollstonecraft, was a unique woman: a philosopher, writer, and the first feminist. Unfortunately, Wollstonecraft was very controversial during her time, and many people criticized her ideas. Mary Wollstonecraft's ideas on public versus private life, politics and domestic spheres, and men and women were, though too often neglected, nevertheless important influences on the thought and development of philosophy and political ideas that resonate even today.
